Frequently Asked Questions
1. Can I work on my service learning in a group or with another student?
2. Do I need a new form for each day that I volunteer?
7. What if I am really passionate about a specific cause but it isn't listed as an option on the AC Service Learning website?
8. Who will sign my form as a supervisor?
9. Does our Discover Ecuador service count towards my goal?
- Absolutely! You may work with as many or as few students as you want, but each student needs to submit their own documentation.
2. Do I need a new form for each day that I volunteer?
- You do not need a new form for each day you volunteer. You need one form per project. For example, if you volunteer at a pet shelter for one hour three separate times, and also a local school one time for two hours, you need to turn in one form for the pet shelter, and one form for the school. Make sure you log the days and hours you volunteered for each location.
- You do not need a new artifact for each day you volunteer. You need one artifact per project. For example, if you volunteer at a pet shelter for one hour three separate times, and also a local school one time for two hours, you only need to turn in one artifact for the pet shelter, and one artifact for the school.
- We have established relationships with many organizations outside of the school, and we also have opportunities for you to complete your service learning in school. If you are still having troubling finding options, see Mr. Muenker and he will help you choose a project that is best for you.
- You must turn in your SLF (Service Learning Form) and artifacts in order to receive credit.
- You may do as much service learning as you want, as long as you reach the minimum of five hours in a semester. You may choose to continue to submit forms and artifacts for your additional work if you want, but that is not required.
7. What if I am really passionate about a specific cause but it isn't listed as an option on the AC Service Learning website?
- If you are going to choose to do a project that is not mentioned on the website, you may! Just make sure you see Mr. Muenker to explain the project and get approval before you begin.
8. Who will sign my form as a supervisor?
- Any person who is in charge of a specific project can sign off on your service learning form. It can be a teacher, employee of a shelter or school, or anyone else who supervises your contributions.
9. Does our Discover Ecuador service count towards my goal?
- No. The Discover Ecuador service counts as a part of your school curriculum requirements. The Service Learning requirement is to be done independently, on your own time.
- No. The idea of the Service Learning project is to get you to help your community. We want you to get involved in improving the lives of others living in Quito, or the environment in Quito. While your dog and little sister live in Quito, and you SHOULD help with those things anyway, that does not fulfill the requirement of going into the community to improve it.
